2010 highlights!

June: the Garden of Plants and Nature welcomed seven interns in the context of its collaboration with the technical agricultural High school of Adja-Ouèrè.
May: - Ms Adégbidi, Coordinator of the Landscapes and Heritage department, participated in the evaluation workshop of the training programme on "Nomination proposals to the World Heritage List" in Johannesburg, South Africa.
- Students of the 12th International University Course on preventive conservation went on a study tour in museums and heritage institutions of Parakou and Natitingou (Benin). They took the opportunity to learn from the schools-museums experience of the Museum at the Service of Development - Msd programme.
• April: - Ms Toffoun from the Special Projects department (Museum at the Service of Development - Msd) carried out a mission at the National museum of Burkina Faso within the framework of the implementation of the museum's educational programme. She also explored with the Sôgôssira museum of Bobo Dioulasso, the possibility of setting up an Msd activity.
- The RECAO project launched a training workshop for managers of cultural spaces of West Africa. Fifteen professionals from Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Mali, Nigeria and Togo participated.
- Ms. Adégbidi, Coordinator of the Landscapes and Heritage department, participated in a workshop on the finalization of the Post Africa 2009 program at ICCROM in Rome, Italy.
- Mr. Fallo Baba Keita has been appointed Director of EPA for the next four years following a recruitment process validated by a decree of the Chairman of the University of Abomey-Calavi. Congratulations and good luck to the new Director!
March: - Luxembourg donated 22.000 euros to the EPA Endowment Fund. This is the first contribution to the new fundraising campaign. Many thanks to Luxembourg for their generous contribution! And many thanks to ICCROM for their support!

Follow-up workshop on the drawing up of nomination proposals to the World Heritage List (in French) in partnership with the World Heritage Centre, International Union for Conservation of Nature, ICOMOS and ICCROM. It was financed by the African World Heritage Fund.

EPA launched the 12th International University Course on preventive conservation in museums, archives and libraries in sub-Saharan Africa. Sixteen professionals from Angola, Benin, Cameroon, Congo Brazzaville, Democratic Republic of Congo, Côte d'Ivoire, Guinea, Mali, Senegal, Chad and Togo are participating in the course. Our thanks to the Getty Foundation and all other partners for their generous contribution.
February: - workshop on initiation to preventive conservation in the heritage huts of Cameroon, in partnership with the programme "La Route des Chefferies" (the Chiefdoms' Road programme) with 15 participants from the heritage huts of Cameroon.

workshop on management and setting up of museum stores in Libreville in Gabon with the financial support of the Ambassador’s Grant (USA). About 10 members of the staff of the Musée des Arts et Traditions du Gabon attended.
January: - participation of Ms Adégbidi and Mr. Kessou, from the Landscapes and Heritage dept., in the Launch Meeting of the Second Cycle of the World Heritage Periodic Reporting for Africa, organized by the World Heritage Centre in Dakar, Senegal.
- launching of the first grouping for the third issue of the CMPC (cultural mediation) BA under the supervision of Mr. Gilles Suzanne, Lecturer and Director of the CMPC BA from the Université de Provence Aix-Marseille I.

The C.V. Raman fellowships for African researchers provides fellowships for African researchers for a period of 1 to 12 months. The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry is the co-ordinating partner of the programme. Deadline for applications is May 31 2010, and candidates are expected to be placed in various Indian institutions by January 2011. [Aug. 23-27]  Launching of the workshop Learning opportunity of Web 2.0 in partnership with the Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation - CTA. Twenty five actors of civil society, academic area, rural development and ICT take part in this training which will enable them to implement Web 2.0 tools in their professional area.

[Aug. 2-6]  Launching with funding from UNESCO through the Japanese Funds in Trust, of the workshop Remise en route du système de documentation des collections d'un musée (how to reactivate a museum documentation system). This workshop aims to provide the participants with necessary tools to build an adequate documentation system or to improve and complete the existing one.

[Aug 02]  Mr. Jacques Toubon, secretary in charge of the fiftieth anniversary of independence for African countries at the Elysée is visiting EPA. Accompanied for the occasion by Messrs William Benichou, his adviser and Patrice Leroy, adviser at the cultural cooperation service of the French Embassy in Benin, they are having a meeting with the staff about EPA's activities and challenges.

[July 29]  Fallo Baba Keita, former Manager of the AFRICA 2009 Programme at ICCROM, officially took up his new duties as Director of the Ecole du Patrimoine Africain (EPA).

[July 27-29]  Fourth meeting of the steering committee of the Museums in the service of development-MSD programme, financed by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Representatives of the French Foreign Affairs, EPA, Musée du Quai Branly and other partners are participating.

[July 22]   Pr. Célestin Kanimba Misago has left us. Doctor in archaeology and after a long academic career in former Zaïre, he pursued his activity in Rwanda, where he was Director of the Institute of National Museums of Rwanda and President of the National Commission for the Fight Against Genocide, posts which he was holding when he died. He brought an important contribution to the promotion of Rwanda and African cultural heritage.

[July 22]  Ms Christine Mengin, Vice-President of International Affairs at the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne is visiting EPA. She had a meeting with the staff and met the participants of the twelfth International University course, financed by the Getty Foundation.

[July 19-22]  Launching of the seminar "National pedagogic institutes and integration policies for cultural heritage in the curricula in sub-Saharan Africa". Twenty participants from national pedagogic institutes and cultural heritage directors are meeting in this workshop organized by the Museum at the Service of Development - Msd programme with funding from the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
